Evaluation 2

Evaluation of My Contents Page

My contents page doesn't completely conform to the conventions of a contents page as I have used more colour in mine to make it match the front cover more. Most contents pages don't have borders around everything, they are normally just plain white background with text on top. Whereas with mine I added black borders to all text and red borders to the images, I chose black as that's the colour of my header and red is the colour of her hair. The use of the red and black makes my contents page bold and stand out. My contents page does conform to some conventions such as I have included the page numbers on every image so that you can find exactly which page the image is on. I have also included an editors letter and contact information. I didn't conform to the convention of using my own images, as I don't own a nus card and didn't get the chance to get a good picture of food. So I used Google but I know that I cant do this for my final piece of work. Overall I have conformed to the conventions but I have also not conformed to them in certain areas.

My contents page represents my target audience as a group of people who really enjoy their music, like to get out about cheaply and have worries but are scared about being open about them. The music element is prominent as I have included a music chart, interview with a band member and also an article on festivals. The money saving element is conveyed through the use of the food freebies and the best places to eat cheaply article along with the nus card. I included the nus card article because all teenagers want to get discounts when they can and the nus card is a student discount card, so it is very relevant to use. Overall my contents page represents my target group as a group of people who want to be safe, save money but at the same time what to know what's happening and stay up to date.

I would have attracted my audience originally by the front cover but the contents page would intrigue them more for them to carry on reading it and convince them to buy the magazine more. I have done this by carrying through the main colours which are red and black. I also included the front cover image and what page you can find that image on. My audience would be attracted to my contents page because again it is different from others, it has a more 'in-your-face' style as I have made everything stand out.

I used In-design for my contents page and at first I really didn't like it as I had just previously used Photoshop, I still feel In-design has a less creative use than Photoshop as you cant quite create it exactly how you want it. I found the guidelines that you can put in place on In-design very helpful as none of my work was out of line with each other. This also saves time as I don't have to line everything up constantly. In the end I feel I produced a good quality contents page.
